What we do here
Gender affirming voice modification
I help people explore new ways of using their voice. My students develop techniques that allow them to feminize their voices without vocal strain, pain, or surgical intervention.
These techniques do not make permanent physical changes to the voice; they are tools that you can choose to use or not use in order to achieve your desired aesthetic. This allows for fluidity and flexibility of expression for those who want to move among feminine, androgynous, and / or masculine sounds, and also provides the confidence to be able to consistently only produce feminine sounds. We will work together to meet your vocal goals and desired gender expression.
What about singing?
Singing is a wonderful way to use and explore our voices. I encourage my students to explore their singing voices using the techniques we cover, but be aware that a fully feminized singing voice requires advanced techniques that require a solid fluency with speaking voice techniques as a prerequisite. That said, nothing we will do will prevent you from using your existing singing voice while you develop those skills, and using your existing singing voice will not inhibit your ability to feminize your speaking voice.

How many lessons will I need?
Everyone learns at their own pace, but most students need about six lessons to master vocal weight and glottal behaviours, resonance, onsets and offsets, pitch contour etc. Many students can pass after 3 or 4 lessons with the remaining lessons helping them to craft the specific sound they are looking for.
How long will this take?
The required duration to find your desired voice varies from person to person and depends on several factors such as 1) how willing you are to experiment and be vulnerable in lessons and practice, 2) how frequently you engage with the techniques between lessons, 3) if you are able to normalize the behaviours consistently in your day-to-day life, and how much you spread apart your lessons.
A course of 6 lessons with 4-6 weeks between each lesson is a reasonable expectation to start with, but just like with any instrument, you will continue to shape your voice and gain finer control over the techniques the longer you use them.
