What’s a voice intensive?

For these twelve weeks, you and your classmates will be immersed in activities and experiences that will get you and keep you using your voice. From warmups, to lessons, to group activities, to small group exercises, to games, to roleplaying, to listening assignments, to written reflections, to aural analysis, to real life challenges, we will be:

  • Building your personal vocal style
  • Creating free and relaxed sound
  • Caring for your voice
  • Sounding female (not just feminine)
  • Getting your voice ready for work / school / play
  • Tackling the emotional hurdles
  • Social confidence tips and tricks
  • Maintaining confidence in the face of being misgendered / deadnamed
  • Making your desired voice your automatic voice

If you have done some voice training already or have researched it online you may have expected that list to include “vocal weight/mass (glottal control)”, “resonance (oropharyngeal modification)”, etc. We will absolutely be covering these and more! But it’s important to remember that those tools are just part of how we get there. This intensive is more than just technique; it’s an opportunity to commit to the voice you want and follow through with the support of your peers and me!

Build your personal vocal style today.

We can’t wait to see you!

How do I get started?

Click here to fill out the registration form, or email me at jodie@transvoicejodie.ca / message me on Discord at #JodievdH with any questions.

Jodie is a great teacher, she can break down concepts to be easy to understand and also provide technical information if you need it. The voice intensive itself was a well put together and a nice environment to learn in; it is also way more affordable than many other in person and online voice training options. -E W

I started this class knowing nothing about voice training or the techniques involved. After these 12 weeks with Jodie I feel like I have a solid foundation to continue practising and honing a voice for myself that I will be happy with. -Morgan

I’m an advanced student, is this right for me?

You won’t be the first advanced student to take this voice intensive! The tools we will develop are useful to any level of voice student, and the voice intensive provides an environment where you can use your target voice consistently with a group of peers and receive feedback while exploring new things with your voice. The last few weeks of the course will all be individual feedback tailored to each student’s respective level, and there will be an opportunity for advanced students to model new concepts for the class.

By popular request, we are looking into adding an ongoing monthly in-person masterclass for students who have already feminized their voices and want to further craft their individual style! If that interests you, please fill out this form so that I can gauge interest and get in touch to discuss availability!

But I really want to know what technique is covered

The technical content is divided into four three-week sections:

  • Glottal behaviour (vocal fold weight, sustain types, onsets and offsets)
  • Advanced sound production (breath / sub glottal pressure management, pitch agility, purity)
  • Oropharyngeal modification (R1 resonance), crafting vocal timbre, feminine low-pitched voices
  • Individual feedback and voice crafting, oral modification (R2 resonance), getting LOUD, non-phonated sounds

Remember, that’s just a rough outline of the technique; the whole time we will be training our ears, putting our voices into practice, and working through the emotional hurdles together. Still want to know more? I’m happy to answer any additional questions you may have about the course.
